On May 28, Gervonta Davis defends his WBA (Regular) lightweight championship against Rolando Romero. The two will ultimately meet in the Barclays Center in New York.

Davis started working as a professional in 2013. Davis won the IBF super-featherweight title in 2017, but it was stripped from him the following year after he failed to reach the weight standards for a fight against Francisco Fonseca. Davis won the WBA (Super) super-featherweight title in 2018 before defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019 to claim the WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

Davis defeated Leo Santa Cruz to win the WBA (Super) super-featherweight title by knockout in October 2020. Davis defeated Mario Barrios in a rematch to win the WBA (Regular) super-lightweight title. He defeated Isaac Cruz in December to retain the WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

In 2016, Romero made his professional debut. In August 2020, he defeated Jackson Marinez for the interim WBA lightweight title. Romero’s most recent fight was in July, when he faced Anthony Yigit. Because Yigit did not make weight, the interim title was not on the line. Romero won via TKO in the seventh round.

The fight was supposed to happen on Dec. 5, but Romero had to pull out due to sexual assault charges. No charges were filed after a few weeks, and the fight was rescheduled. Davis has a criminal history, including an arrest for simple battery/domestic abuse against his former spouse in February 2020.

Showtime pay-per-view is available for Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero. Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku, Xbox One, desktops, and mobile and tablet devices can all stream Showtime.
