After already being left out of the team for the recent tour to the United States, Nigeria has recalled striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe. The 23-year-old striker is one of a number of players who were not selected for the Super Eagles’ friendly in the United States but have been picked for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ahmed Musa, the team’s captain, Leon Balogun, Zaidu Sanusi, Adebayo Adeleye, Sadiq Umar, and Shehu Abdullahi are the remaining players.

The only two players from the local league to reach the final roster for the international friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador in the United States are Akwa United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka and Katsina defender Sani Faisal.

On June 9, Nigeria will host Sierra Leone in Abuja before flying to Morocco on June 14 to play Sao Tome and Principe in another Group A encounter.
