The initiative employs NFTs, which are one-of-a-kind blockchain-based tokens that indicate ownership of digital assets. The NFTs in this circumstance provide ownership to DuskBreakers characters.
“After stepping away from Twitch to explore what’s next in the industry, I truly believe blockchain will open the door to even more possibilities and have a major impact in the gaming, storytelling, and community building space,” Lin said in a statement.
Lin is Metatheory’s CEO, and he’s recruited a few former Twitch employees to assist him to establish his Web3 startup. JT Gleason, a former Twitch developer relations executive, and engineer is Metatheory’s CTO, while Jason Maestas, VP of Community and Marketing, hails from Twitch’s Influencer Marketing team.

Unlike other blockchain games, which can only be played in a web browser, Metatheory has its own game launcher, offering players the option of playing DuskBreakers in a browser or natively through the game launcher on their PCs.

Back in December, Metatheory released a “play-to-mint” DuskBreakers minigame called “The Recruit Simulator,” which players could play to earn a DuskBreakers genesis NFT.
However, the mythology of DuskBreakers is about to extend beyond its NFT collection and two minigames, as Metatheory is presently looking for a comic artist to convert the game and its IP into an online graphic book. In addition to the planned play-and-earn game, the DuskBreakers team is planning a second NFT collection, 3D profile photo avatars, apparel, and events.
