The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta has reached a new concurrent peak of around 170,000 players on PC, making it one of Steam’s most popular titles right now.
According to SteamDB, the beta presently has more concurrent players than Team Fortress 2, Destiny 2, GTA 5, and even Cyberpunk 2077, which has just witnessed an increase in its own player counts.
With an all-time concurrent peak of 168,330 players (at the time of writing; it’s been gradually climbing all weekend), it’s already surpassed the concurrent records for titles such as Left 4 Dead 2, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, The Division, FIFA 22, and Borderlands 2.
Of course, there’s still a long way to go before it cracks the top ten; Infinity Ward would need to see numbers of roughly half a million to make a mark there. But it’s no minor feat, especially given that this is just a beta test and only includes individuals who play on Steam, not those who play on console.
It’s the second weekend of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta, and although PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players are all getting in on the action, cheats have entered the fray.
In reaction, console gamers are blocking crossplay to avoid matching up with those on PC, causing Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward to pledge “action” on social media.
