The company of Ridley Scott has joined the Ethereum film project, Scott Free Productions, a film and television production business co-founded by filmmaker Ridley Scott, whose 2000 film Gladiator won the Academy Award for Best Picture, has joined the effort to develop a film on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain’s genesis and rise.
Shyam Madiraju will write and direct the film, which is based on Camila Russo’s book The Infinite Machine.
“It’s incredibly exciting to have Ridley Scott and the crew at Scott Free produce the movie of The Infinite Machine alongside us,” Russo told industry news site Deadline. “I can’t imagine a better team to turn the riveting story about the people behind the most revolutionary technology since the internet into a feature film that will capture the hearts of our generation.”
According to the publisher’s description, Russo’s book “begins with Vitalik Buterin, a phenomenally bright nineteen-year-old autodidact who spotted the promise of blockchain while the technology was in its early stages.”

According to the description, The Infinite Machine explains Buterin’s “ingenious notion” and “unfolds Ethereum’s turbulent origins.”
“It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform—an infinitely adaptable foundation for experimentation and new applications—has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew.”
The team driving the creative endeavor will benefit from Scott Free Productions’ experience bringing a number of blockbusters to the big screen by bringing them on board. House of Gucci, starring Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, and Al Pacino, is one of the most recent films in which the film production company has been involved.
Scott Free Productions, for example, is now co-producing Napoleon, which will be directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix.
