Despite high-profile rumors to the contrary, don’t anticipate an Aztec setting for Assassin’s Creed in the near future. A rumor that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be set in the Aztec era gathered popularity online yesterday, apparently from a Twitter user who has previously released information about another Ubisoft title Far Cry.
“The next AC game will be Rift, which will be set in Baghdad,” Schreier stated on Reddit. “After that, there’ll be AC Infinity, which will feature a slew of other games/experiences/biomes/whatever you want to call it, but I’ve heard about the major two, and none of them are Aztec.”
Rift is the codename for Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, which is intended to be a smaller, more stealth-focused experience than the series’ previous massive adventures.
Bloomberg previously revealed details about Rift in February, stating that it will star the famous Valhalla character Basim.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft Quebec and Montreal, the franchise’s two principal development offices, are working on Infinity, a significant Assassin’s Creed project. It will apparently have numerous time periods, places, stories, and people, with new pieces of the game being released over time.
Following ongoing fan celebrations of the series’ 15th anniversary, Ubisoft has announced that it would “unveil the future of Assassin’s Creed” in September.
Valhalla’s ambitious post-launch content has also been given a deadline, with the game’s final epilogue set to be released as a free update at the end of the year.
