Epic Games has announced that an in-person Fortnite competition will take place in November, marking the company’s first major in-person competitive Fortnite event since the Fortnite World Cup in 2019.

On November 12th and 13th, the FNCS Invitational 2022 will be held in the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina.

“We will be inviting a selection of elite FNCS Duos from across the world to battle in a single lobby for a portion of a $1,000,000 prize pool,” Epic stated in a blog post credited to “The Fortnite Team.”

However, the company emphasizes that player health and safety are “the number one priority for organizing any in-person event,” and warns that it may be forced to postpone the event if “public health trends change or area laws or guidelines move at any point this year.”

Epic has yet to confirm when a Fortnite World Cup will take place in 2023. The first and only Fortnite World Cup, held in 2019, was a three-day event featuring a prize pool of $30 million.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Epic declared that the World Cup would be held in April 2020 and that there would be no World Cup in 2021 at the end of that year. Epic has continued to run Fortnite competitions online, but the FNCS Invitational 2022 looks to indicate that the business is interested in sponsoring in-person contests again.
